An independent developer team based in Boston, Mystic Moose, announced receiving $5 million in venture capital. The new project it is working on is a browser-based game metaverse called Planet Mojo.
Games on Planet Mojo will be interconnected, and the first game to release is a three-dimensional take on Auto Chess. With the planned release by the end of Q1, 2022, Planet Mojo will feature a dual play-to-earn economy and utilize augmented reality elements.
Mine Levine, the founder of Mystic Moose, previously produced XR games like “Sam and Max: This Time It’s Virtual”, ”Hologrid Monster”, and a few other augmented reality mobile games.
Mystic Moose’s team comprises veterans from the game industry having more than 25 years of experience in various game companies. Bored Ape Yacht Club’s parent company, Animoce Brands, led the seed round, seeing participation from Polygon Studios, Republic Crypto, Alameda, Fourth Revolution Capital, Sky Vision Capital, Collab+Currency, Spartan Capital, and many more.
Michael Levine, Mystic Moose CEO, revealed that Planet Mojo would tell the story of an alien world where nature and machines fight against each other. Players can create their team and customize the characters with weapons, abilities, skins, and much more. They are trying to recreate the nostalgic vibes of Dungeons and Dragons in a 3D virtual world with a sense of ownership.
Planet Mojo will be a play-to-earn metaverse where players can also play for free. But the earning potential of free-to-play gameplay will be far limited, and players who invest in the game will get various in-game rewards.
As the play-to-earn community grows around blockchain and NFTs, Mystic Moose’s economy will entirely depend on green blockchains like ImmutableX, Avalanche, and Polygon. Planet Mojo looks like a well-thought project with an experienced and responsible team to back it up.
