GameStop Launches Its NFT Marketplace

GameStop finally launches its long-awaited NFT marketplace in beta testing. The game retailer first teased its NFT marketplace last year, with plans to release it at the end of Q2 2022.

The self-custodial marketplace currently has listed around 53.4K NFTs, with more than 240 collections available for users to buy. The platform allows users to buy, sell, trade, and mint their NFTs. The marketplace enables users to connect their crypto wallets to their accounts. The currently supported wallets are Metamask, WalletConnect, and the recently launched GameStop Browser Extension Wallet.

GameStop states that its marketplace is built on top of the Ethereum blockchain and utilizes layer 2 scaling protocols to ensure faster speeds and lower transaction rates on the app. The GameStop Wallet is based on Loopring’s Layer 2 zkRollup Solution, which makes it more efficient and cheaper than wallets that use only Layer 1 Ethereum mainnet.

How Do I Mint My NFTs on GameStop’s Marketplace?

Currently, GameStop allows creators to mint and sell their NFTs on an invite-only basis. You can apply to join the marketplace as a creator by filling up this form. The Creator Royalty varies between 0-10%.

Furthermore, the marketplace allows users to trade only the NFTs that were minted exclusively on the platform.

GameStop Plans To Expand The Marketplace's Functionality

GameStop states that over time, the platform would offer more content, including support for Web3 gaming and more content from other creators and Ethereum environments. GameStop has partnered up with Immutable X to offer 100% gas-free minting and bring access to millions of gaming assets created on Immutable X to the marketplace.
