The Bored Ape Yacht Club is the most valuable NFT collection to date, and it just keeps getting better. Recently, crypto exchange giant Coinbase announced plans to create a series of animated short films, marking BAYC’s official entry to the silver screen.
Titled “The Degen Trilogy,” the three-part film series will feature only the original Bored Ape collection, launched in April 2021. In addition, it will also feature ApeCoin, the recently launched governance token for the growing Yuga Labs Web3 ecosystem.
Last week, a casting call went out for any BAYC holders interested in submitting their NFTs to be included in the first film. Furthermore, it is set to debut at NFT.NYC in June, with other two entries to follow over next year.
After the initial announcement, a tweet from the official BAYC Twitter also confirmed the news. Furthermore, they added that Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT holders should not apply for the casting call, as they will be getting their own in the second film. What remains to be seen is how ApeCoin holders are included in the films.
As a tie-in to the Coinbase NFT marketplace, the popular crypto exchange came up with this concept. However, to embrace the decentralized community of BAYC owners, it plans to work with NFT holders and potentially features their Bored Apes in the films.
Coinbase’s Entertainment & Culture Marketing Director, William Swann, said in a release, “We’ve been inspired by the Bored Ape Yacht Club community and excited to invite them to co-create this film with us.”
As revealed by a Coinbase representative, the short films will premiere at live events, and we will soon get additional viewing info. However, while users currently require a Coinbase Wallet to access the film’s site, it is not necessary to watch the film.
The Bored Ape Yacht Club is among the most popular NFT projects in the market. Furthermore, the Ethereum-based collections have generated more than $3.2 billion in secondary market sales. At the time of writing, the floor Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT is listed on a marketplace at 123 ETH (about $372,340). Recently, Yuga Labs, creators behind BAYC, has acquired the CryptoPunks and Meebits collections from Larva Labs. In addition, it is set to release an online metaverse gaming world named “Otherside.”

The NFT community has previously witnessed projects like Bored Ape Chronicles and Interleave create hype about the greater BAYC ecosystem. However, Coinbase’s BAYC movie trilogy will be another testament to BAYC.
Although little information regarding the upcoming films is available, an official website has already been set up. Also, it has already been integrated with Coinbase wallet connect capabilities.
