The American music and entertainment company Billboard recently announced its partnership with Universal Music Group (UMG) to enter the growing NFT ecosystem. To do that, the company is launching an NFT project called ChartStars on the environmentally friendly Flow Blockchain. The first NFTs from this collection of curated digital collectibles will arrive in May. The partnership between the two music giants is an extraordinary moment for the NFT music industry.
ChartStars marks Billboard’s first scalable NFT project aimed towards music fans. Furthermore, the partnership gives Billboard access to a world-class roster of artists, including BTS, Kanye West, Jay Z, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and more. In fact, the Universal Music Group (UMG) has been in the NFT space for a while now and understands the market. They have been quite successful with Curio and a wearable metaverse project. Also, BAYC’s music group Kingship has a contract with UMG’s next-gen web3 label 10:22 PM.
ChartStars is an artist-focussed NFT collection that commemorates the milestones reached on the Billboards charts. Among the NFTs, there will be songs that made it to the top 25 or other Billboard chart-related successes. In addition, we might also see songs that stayed on the chart for a long time and pieces that hold historic chart records in the NFT collection. The unique ChartStars collectibles will feature officially licensed art and include album photographs and clips from music videos. Fans can also compete for real-life rewards, adding a gamification layer to the platform.
Additionally, Billboards and UMG share an impressive history. UMG is the only company placed nine times on Billboards’ Top 10 album charts. Similarly, in 2021 UMG set a new record for being in the No. 1 spot for 38 weeks straight. UMG’s Executive Vice President Michael Nash commented, “By harnessing its iconic charts for these compelling digital collectibles, Billboard is creating a ground-breaking new way for artists and fans to celebrate unique achievements and cultural moments.
For ChartStars, Billboard has made Unblocked its NFT technology partner. Music fans who want to get their hands on one of ChartStar’s unique music NFTs can now use cryptocurrencies and credit cards. On top of that, Unblocked is supported by Dapper Labs, the creator of the NBA Top Shot NFT collection. Stay connected with NiftyHype for more such NFT updates.
