The noted investor in NFT and metaverse projects, Animoca Brands, announced acquiring 100% of the Australia-based motorsport game developer, Grease Monkey Games. The indie game developer previously made racing games like Torque Burnout and Torque Drift for PC and mobile. Its titles have more than 45 million downloads from gamers worldwide. The next phase includes a major cross-platform racing game built using Unreal Engine 5, which will be announced shortly.
Founded in 2013 by Arran Potter, a veteran of the video visual effects industry, Grease Monkey Games is a high-quality motorsports game developer based in Melbourne. It brings significant game development capabilities and expertise to the table for Animoca Brands. With over eight years of experience in motorsports games development, it has established partnerships across various motorsports and automotive manufacturing companies. Its extensive portfolio of licensed partnerships includes Nissan, Toyota, BMW, Ford, ECU, Nishimoto, and Wilwood. Even motorsports athletes such as Vaughn Gittin Jr, Adam LZ, and Mad Mike are on Grease Monkey Games' roster. Throughout the years, it has also partnered with motorsports events such as RedBull Drift Shifters, GridLife, Formula Drift, and many more.
After the acquisition, Grease Monkey Games' operations will continue under the current management. However, it will align its efforts with those of Animoca Brands, relating to blockchain integration, fungible and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), product launches, plat-to-earn, and so on. The acquisition's financial terms are yet to be disclosed, and the companies refrained from any comments on this subject.
